First Line of Defense
Salvage is the first line of defense against marine pollution when major casualties occur. The DONJON-SMIT salvage team has prevented the spillage of millions of tons of oil, chemicals and bunkers threatening vulnerable coastlines and marine environments. Donjon and SMIT have been instrumental in developing and implementing new technologies and strategies for the safe, pollution-free removal of cargo and bunkers from wrecks, including the use of hot-tap technology for spill-free extraction of potentially harmful fluids either above or below the waterline.
We respond 24/7. We have the experts and the specialized equipment for almost any marine emergency.
Keep it in the Ship
Proper and timely VRP activation is crucial to spill prevention and mitigation. The VRP, a principal component of the Oil Pollution Act of 1990, meets rigorous federal standards that bring to bear extensive pollution cleanup resources and salvage services. The salvor endeavors to “keep it in the ship.” Successfully preventing a capsizing, extinguishing a fire, or containing a hull rupture are all actions that may forestall a release or mitigate spill cleanup.
